Men’s beach volleyball opens season with AVCA tournament

Beach volleyball season is underway at Liberty, and the men’s team is looking forward to a new season.

On Aug. 26 to 28, the Flames welcomed three teams to the East Campus Beach Courts, where they were hosts to the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Tournament.

Liberty opened tournament play early in the morning against Webber International University and lost the match 0-5. The team then played Erskine College, defeating them with a final score of 5-0 and splitting the day overall.

Saturday, the Flames took on Erskine College, starting the day with a 5-0 victory. They then had a rematch with Webber International University at noon, where Webber once again dominated 5-0.

Liberty then finished its portion of the tournament on Sunday, playing Stevenson University, where the team fell short 2-3

The team will look to improve its record from a 5-8 finish last year, starting with its first series Sept. 11 as the Flames take on Stevenson University in Pikesville, Maryland, at the USAV College Beach Challenge. Their first match of the weekend is set for 8 a.m.
