Beginning Sept. 10, Monday’s Convocation will be considered Convo Select and is no longer a required event for students.
During weeks with no alternative Convocation — monthly assemblies facilitated by departments and schools — Convo Select will be hosted in the Center for Music and the Worship Arts’ Concert Hall at 10:30 a.m.
“It’s affording us experiences (that) are a little more tailor-made,” Senior Vice President for Spiritual Development David Nasser said.
The guest list for Convo Select includes author Dinesh Desouza, pastor Tyler Staton, author Curtis Zachary and candidates for local and state offices.
“Sometimes, we will have an all-girls’ gathering or an all-guys’ gathering or a specific thing that is a little more tailor-made for an audience,” Nasser said.
Nasser said the changes were made with students in mind, as Convo Select will provide a more sustainable pace for students. While students who want to hear from speakers three times a week can still have that opportunity, it also opens campus for another hour for those who need the time.
“And it gives those who say they really need Monday to get caught up on homework to do that as well,” Nasser said. “It will also give opportunities on Monday mornings … SGA (if they) want to meet or club organizations want to meet.”
Campus will be fully functional on Mondays, giving students the option to work for an extra hour at the beginning of their week.
Nasser explained that Mondays are the ideal day for Convo Select because it gives students longer weekends. Additionally, Mondays are often inconvenient for many speakers Liberty brings in.
Nasser and other leadership will share more information about Convo Select with the student body during Convocation Wednesday, Sept. 5.
