A photographic memory

2016-2017 Liberty yearbook captures memories of the school year’s events

As the school year draws to a close and students get ready for the summer, Liberty University prepares to release its $35 2016-2017 yearbook for those wishing to relive the school’s most exciting events and achievements of the past academic year.

While this year’s publication will highlight the accomplishments of the university, it will also focus on keeping close to the student body by offering individual student
stories, features and student quotes which give it a personal touch.

With the rapid growth of Liberty’s student population, the yearbook team is committed to keeping the focus on the student body without getting lost in the significant changes happening within the university.

The attention has inspired this year’s “reframe” theme, which matches the progressive emphasis of previous themes.

Coverage of both big and small events will be included to make it relevant to all students, and it will feature stories and sections about individual student lives, challenges and victories by faith within the student body.

Yearbook editor Rachel Halbach explained the reasons behind this year’s theme.

“Because of how big our school is, we wanted to find a way to zoom in to connect to the student body more and be able to feature the inner workings of such a big
establishment,” Halbach said.

“While we do capture the bigger moments, we also wanted to focus on the values of the student body, what we love about Liberty and what we each individually do.”

Because of the many notable Convocation speakers, the yearbook will include seven features of some of the top names and events that took place over the fall and spring, such as Steph Curry’s shoe drive and the Special Olympics, in addition to both Coffeehouses.

The coverage will include standout events in order to preserve the memories of some of Liberty’s biggest moments.

The yearbook will also contain sections dedicated to student life, academics, sports and ministry teams within its nearly 100 pages.

Creating the yearbook requires a hardworking team that is passionate about Liberty’s mission and goals.

The team – composed of writers, editors and designers – works hard to ensure the
publication of university highlights dating back to fall of 2016.

Because fellow full-time students devote their time and energy to making the yearbook vision a reality, the publication includes memories students loved and will want to revisit after graduation.

“My biggest task as a graphic designer was to lay out the vision and figure out what I wanted the book to look like as a whole,” designer Natalie Camloh said.

“Now, day-to-day, it’s taking the design style I made in the fall and implementing it into every page. It’s a lot of back-and-forth, working together with the writers to readjust and make edits until the page is ready.”

In accordance with Liberty’s values, the yearbook will also reflect the school’s Christian worldview.

It acts as coverage for students to remember what they’ve learned and accomplished, but also for any reader to see the school’s beliefs on every page.

“Because what we’re doing is ultimately for Christ, it shows in what we write, it shows in what stories we focus on, it shows in what students we choose to honor and it shows in the speakers we choose to feature from Convo,” Halbach said.

“The spiritual aspect is really important to us, and so we write about it.”

The Liberty University 2016-2017 Yearbook is now available for pre-order online at www.liberty.edu/studentaffairs/yearbook, and will ship in the summer. Previous yearbooks can also be ordered from that site.
