Virginia Mail-In Voting May Be Delayed
Virginia’s top elections official said that mail-in voting may be delayed during the 2024 presidential election.
According to the Virginia Mercury, “Commissioner of Elections Susan Beals on Wednesday expressed concerns with the operational performance of the U.S. Postal Service ahead of the 2024 presidential election in Virginia, warning that mail-in ballots may not be processed in time to be counted.”
This is not just a problem in Virginia. Many states in the union are facing similar problems. Major state officials are addressing the issues made to the mail-in system from COVID-19 changes during the 2020 election.
Beals expressed a larger concern for rural and isolated voters, as their time frame for mail-in takes longer to process than people living in suburban or city areas.
According to 13NewsNow, “It is now a requirement for localities to pre-process mail-in ballots by the Saturday before Election Day, whereas that was not a requirement for the 2020 Presidential Election.”
To prevent potential issues with delivery and counting, mail-in voters can send in their ballots ahead of time.
