Our Aroma

Mustard Seed Chronicles: Story Time with LU Grandma

Ephesians 5:1-2 (NLT): “Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.” (emphasis is mine)

We’ve all seen them. The many commercials regarding antiperspirants and cologne, encourage us to have a pleasing aroma when we are out and about with others. There is a well-known department store in London that has a whole floor dedicated to cologne!

The Bible does not address antiperspirants at all. We read in these verses that our “aroma” must be pleasing to God. So what scent is that?  LOVE! “Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ.”

How does Love smell? God told us!

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NLT): “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.  It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”

We can put on the world and be a stench to those that are around us and be disgusting to God, or we can “put on” God’s Word and His Love and be so much more pleasing to God and all others.

Prayer

Father, we want the fragrance of our lives to come up to You as a pleasing aroma and it has nothing to do with what we put on our bodies, but what comes out of our hearts! We want to be a pleasing aroma to You, and we know that because we do, we will be the same to all others around us too.

We need Your help in this, Jesus, so we pray this in Your name!

Amen
