Staff Sergeant Tyler Voogd is a native of Central California, however he moved to Lynchburg Virginia in 2012 and has called Central Virginia home ever since. In 2015 he enlisted in the Army National Guard as an Infantryman. He served in the 3rd Battalion 116th Infantry of the Historic 29th Infantry Division as a grenadier and rifle team leader. He also served in the 229th Chemical Company where he earned the Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) 74D Chemical Biological Radiological Specialist. Staff Sergeant Voogd is a graduate of Liberty University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and is a current graduate student in the Master’s degree in Communication program at Liberty University.

Prior to accepting a full-time position in the Army National Guard, Voogd served as a law enforcement officer for approximately seven years. During that time, he earned multiple awards including the Life Saving Award and led his department in the most DUI arrests for two straight years. Voogd is a certified police academy instructor and SWAT certified with both state and federal endorsements in defensive tactics, tactical medicine, and riot control.

Voogd’s military awards and decorations include Army Commendation Medal (2), Army Achievement Medal (4), German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (bronze), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Funeral Honors Ribbon.

He is married to Meghan Voogd, a native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and they have four sons.
