Frequently Asked Questions
Online Book Studies FAQs
What are the goals of a book study?
Personal growth and community! Learn some new skills, have your faith grow, and get to know fellow online students from across the USA and beyond.
Who leads a book study?
Book study leaders are student workers who are trained to lead participants in the study. They are not teachers of the material, but facilitators of the discussion so we can all grow together.
How do I register for a book study?
Go to our Online Book Studies page and click on Register–limited participants so book your place soon! Registration closes approximately 7 days before the study start date.
How do I get my book?
Once you register and pay $15 to book your spot, you will shortly receive an email from Amazon with a link to your book voucher.
Click on the link and follow the prompts to activate your voucher. Your book will be sent to your home address within a few days. If you choose an eBook, it should be available immediately.
I already own the book. What should I do?
You still need to register for the study on our website in order to secure your spot in the study. Then please email us at onlinestudentlife@liberty.edu and let us know you have the book; we will make a note not to send you a book voucher.
I registered for the study but I don’t see an email with my book voucher. What do I do?
The email will take 2-4 days to arrive. Please check your email carefully, including your spam/junk folder. If you still haven’t received that email, contact us and we will send you the book voucher link directly.
What if I want to change studies or cancel?
Please contact onlinestudentlife@liberty.edu to assist you in canceling or to make changes to your reservation.
How do I attend a book study?
About 1 week before the start of the study, you will get an email from your leader with a link to Webex (web conferencing software). Click on the link to join the study at the appropriate time (pay attention to your time zone!). To get the most from the study, your computer should have a webcam and microphone. You can also join from your phone.
What should I expect in my book study?
It’s important to know this is not a class, but a discussion. The leaders will bring out some main points from the week’s reading but will not be “teaching” but facilitating a discussion.
How can I get the most out of my book study?
Come prepared and ready to share! You will get the most out of it if you read the chapters beforehand and note down some questions and comments for discussion. Don’t worry if you have to miss a week, though! Participate as much as your schedule allows.
If I have any questions or concerns, who should I contact?
Your leader will be your first point of contact, and they will be in touch with you throughout the study. You are also welcome to contact Online Life at 434-592-4320 or onlinestudentlife@liberty.edu
If I have suggestions on how to improve book studies or ideas for future studies, who do I contact?
Please email the Assistant Director for Online Student Development at dchristison@liberty.edu.
