Liberty University’s College of Applied Studies and Academic Success (CASAS) and School of Nursing are excited to announce major leadership updates.
Dr. Dwayne Melton has been named dean of CASAS, and Dr. Tracey Turner will serve as chief nurse administrator and dean of the School of Nursing.
“These leadership appointments in the School of Nursing and CASAS reflect our ongoing commitment to providing our students with a world-class education, guided by our faith and trust in God’s wisdom,” said Liberty Provost and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Scott Hicks. “I am confident that under their leadership, both these schools will continue to thrive and innovate, walking in the path that God has set for us.”
Dr. Dwayne Melton started working for CASAS in 2009 as the director of residential advising before becoming associate dean and then moving into the interim dean position in July.
With more than 15 years of experience in higher education where he has primarily focused on student development and success, Melton has taught a variety of courses, including business communications, project planning, study strategies, and self-management skills. He holds a doctorate from Northcentral University in project management and attended Liberty for both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
Melton also served in the U.S. Air Force, worked in sales and operations management and sports programming through Bedford County Parks and Recreation, and did faith-based nonprofit work focused on community engagement. Additionally, he worked for the leadership development organization Catalyst, which focuses on equipping and inspiring young leaders.
Dr. Tracey Turner brings over 25 years of experience in academic and clinical arenas. She exhibits a true love for students and those she works with through her clear focus on their development and success in nursing.
Starting in 2014, Turner served as the chair of the residential B.S. in Nursing program and as program director and assessment coordinator until Aug. 2022 when she was named interim dean of the School of Nursing. She has been a registered nurse since 1997, in Virginia, Minnesota, and Washington. Her clinical experience includes labor and delivery, mother-baby, and high-risk antepartum nursing. She has also served as a charge nurse, transport nurse, and preceptor throughout her nursing career.
Turner graduated from the University of Virginia with her B.S. in Nursing (1997) and M.S. in Nursing (2004). She completed her Educational Specialist and Doctorate in Education from Liberty University Online Programs.
As dean, Turner will continue to focus on the unwavering mission of Liberty University to provide both academic excellence and an unparalleled student experience. She will ensure that students are prepared to serve at all levels of professional and clinical competency and to the highest Christian ethical standards.
