As Liberty Baseball embarks on its inaugural season as a member of Conference USA, the Flames will look to make an immediate splash as one of the league’s newcomers.
The Flames enter the season ranked second in the CUSA Preseason Poll and will open the 2024 campaign with a three-game series against Quinnipiac on Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium Feb. 16-18.
In addition to witnessing a stellar on-field performance, fans can expect the same exciting gameday atmosphere the stadium is known for — delicious concessions (with new specials for each series), firepits, and fun crowd participation between innings. They can also look forward to a full calendar of giveaways and promotions (see dates below). Friday’s contest will feature a 2024 team poster giveaway.
Future promotions include a Mini-Bat giveaway (3/8), Baseball Trading Card giveaways (3/19, 5/1, 5/8), Stadium Cup giveaway (3/26), inaugural CUSA logo baseball (3/28), Mini-Foam Finger giveaway (4/02), a Master’s Themed T-shirt giveaway (4/13), and more.
The Flames also have multiple promotions that will run for the entire season, including Baseball Bingo with prizes every Saturday, Kids Run the Bases every Sunday, and a T-shirt toss at every game.
Liberty Baseball will observe awareness/appreciation days for mental health (3/19) and military servicemembers (5/16).
Fans can purchase tickets to watch the Flames in action at LibertyFlames.com. Baseball tickets are $5 for General Admission, with discounts for large groups. Season tickets are available for $50 online.
Liberty also offers a discounted 10 Ticket Pack for $30, which includes 10 vouchers to be redeemed at any of the team’s 30 home games this season. Vouchers are purchased in quantities of 10 and all exchanges must be done through your online account.
Liberty Head Coach Scott Jackson enters his eighth season at the helm of the Flames, during which Liberty has posted a 222-147 record. He became the first coach in Liberty history to lead the Flames to three consecutive appearances in an NCAA Regional (2019-22); the 2020 campaign was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The thing that I’m most excited about (for this year) is the journey with this group of guys,” Jackson told Flames Central Podcast. “I don’t know what God’s got for us, but (men’s basketball Head Coach) Ritchie McKay told me something when I first got here that’s always stuck with me: ‘Get a bunch of guys you can lose with and go to war with.’ That’s always stuck with me. These guys are going to be so much fun. The way they have worked. We have some true leaders on our team, some older players that are mature. I think that’s what I’m looking forward to the most.”
The Flames will look to two-time ASUN All-Conference and 2022 ASUN Freshman of the Year pitcher Garrett Horn and senior catcher/outfielder Three Hillier to play key roles this season.
In addition, Liberty will return ASUN All-Conference first baseman Brayden Horton and outfielder Kane Kepley. As freshmen last season, Horton hit .341 and Kepley batted .310 to lead the Flames in hitting. Horton also led the Flames in slugging percentage and total bases, while Kepley led Liberty in runs scored.
Also returning are infielder Cam Foster, who led the team in home runs and RBI last season, and outfielder Camden Troyer along with pitchers Trey Carter, Trey Cooper, Cole Hertzler and Todd Hudson.
The Flames once again have a challenging and exciting home schedule. The 30-game home slate includes a three-game series with East Carolina, which has made five consecutive NCAA Regional appearances and midweek matchups with ACC opponents Duke (a 2023 NCAA Super Regional participant), Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest (a 2023 College World Series participant). It also features a midweek contest against 2023 Big South Champion and NCAA Regional participant Campbell.
The Flames will welcome fellow conference newcomer Sam Houston to Worthington Field in late March. Liberty will also host CUSA members Jacksonville State, FIU, and Louisiana Tech in a conference series.
