Aaron Cole, Chris Renzema among artists on Student Activities’ spring concert schedule

Dustin Nickerson and fellow stand-up comedian Aaron Weber will lighten up the atmosphere in the LaHaye Event Space on Feb. 4.

Liberty University’s Student Activities Office has a wide variety of events on tap for the spring semester, kicking off its concert series last Friday night with free performances by Worship Collective member TJ Lawson and fellow student artist Lucas James in the LaHaye Event Space.

That same venue will become a sanctuary for students looking for laughter and stress relief on Feb. 4, while listening to comedy routines from Seattle native Dustin Nickerson, a former youth pastor, and Aaron Weber, a regular performer at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn.

“Both are incredible stand-up comics that we are excited to bring to the student body,” Director of Student Activities Cort Comfort said, noting that tickets are on sale now.

Then, over the semester’s first College For A Weekend (CFAW) on Feb. 18, hip-hop artist Aaron Cole will perform in an encore from his appearance at Block Party in late August. Current Liberty student KMO is the opening act.

After headlining Block Party last August, Aaron Cole will perform again Feb. 18 in the LaHaye Event Space.

“Aaron really impressed our team at Block Party,” Comfort said of the artist signed by Liberty alumnus TobyMac’s Gotee Records. “He is incredibly talented, and we cannot wait to have him back on campus. KMO is an amazing artist we have featured at Coffeehouse, and he did a concert here last fall.”

Chris Renzema, who performed at the Every Square Inch conference last spring, will return for a concert with Antoine Bradford on April 9 in the Center for Music and the Worship Arts Concert Hall.

A highlight of the semester’s second CFAW will be a concert featuring Christian songwriter Chris Renzema on the Hope Nostalgia Tour with Antoine Bradford on April 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for Music and the Worship Arts Concert Hall.

“Students are familiar with Chris, and tickets will probably be sold out in a few weeks,” Comfort said of Renzema, whose songs incorporate elements of folk, pop, and indie music.

This year’s Spring Coffeehouse, set for March 26 at 11:30 p.m. in the Vines Center, will have a unique theme, “The Great Beyond,” celebrating space exploration from NASA to Space X and Blue Origin as well as favorite intergalactic movies and shows.

“Each performance will take inspiration from the achievements and stories told in space,” Comfort said. “While the responsibility to perform may not be as grand as that of the head engineers at Space X, it’s still grand.” Coffeehouse is one of the most popular events each semester, drawing some of the largest crowds for any student event. Tryouts are scheduled for Feb. 21, 22, 24, 26, and 28.

Another major event on campus, co-sponsored by Student Activities and Liberty’s Center for Apologetics and Cultural Engagement, is the sixth annual Every Square Inch Conference on March 4-5 in the LaHaye Event Space providing a forum for the Liberty community to cultivate Christianity in all aspects of culture.

More than 30 other events are lined up for the semester, including five Open Mic nights, four movie nights, three bingo nights, two trivia nights, a Family Feud night with audience participation on Jan. 21, a Spelling Bee with a twist on Feb. 5, and Comedy Night on April 1, followed by an Art Expo and Community Yard Sale.
