Flames football jerseys catch the eye of USA Today

As Liberty University’s football team clashed with the Richmond Spiders during its Homecoming game on Saturday, the Flames uniform ensemble caught the eye of USA Today. In its weekly listing of the best college football uniforms across the nation, For the Win, a USA Today Sports entity, tabbed Liberty’s jerseys as the sixth best. For the Homecoming game, Liberty debuted its new matte red helmets, decorated with the Flames eagle logo, along with the team’s red uniforms and white pants.

Though Liberty ultimately lost to Richmond in double overtime, the game was a thriller for the 20,838 Williams Stadium attendees, who set a new record for Flames Football attendance. With 1.8 seconds remaining in regulation, Flames kicker John Lunsford made a record-breaking 60-yard field goal to tie the game and force overtime. The feat was featured on ESPN SportsCenter as one of the Top 10 Plays of the Day.
