Master of Divinity in Healthcare Chaplaincy

Residential Master of Divinity in Healthcare Chaplaincy

Develop the skills you need to help meet the spiritual needs of patients in various healthcare settings. Through the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) in Healthcare Chaplaincy degree, you can examine the theological and cultural issues relevant to chaplaincy and learn to support patients and their families with spiritual truth.

Prepare for real-life experiences in hospital, hospice, or other healthcare chaplaincy settings. With this degree, you will receive healthcare chaplaincy training in hands-on, theoretical, and explorative contexts. Contrasts between truth-claims of major world religions in comparison to Christian theistic apologetics will also be studied.

Clinical Pastoral Education

Our chaplaincy program incorporates Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) opportunities designed to enhance your marketability in the field. You’ll complete your CPE units in a ministry setting, averaging 20-25 hours per week. This degree includes four units of CPE, which are often required for full-time hospital chaplain positions.

Through the Healthcare Chaplaincy degree program, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Gain a global perspective on the Great Commission in a format that emphasizes the proclamation and practical application of the Gospel in making disciples.
  • Explore the Old and New Testaments from a conservative evangelical perspective, exhibiting knowledge of the literature appropriate to the discipline of biblical studies.
  • Investigate theological stances on key doctrinal questions and issues within Christian thought.
  • Synthesize the principles of chaplain care in the healthcare context

Learn from our credentialed faculty who have served or continue to serve as chaplains in one or more functional areas of chaplaincy. You’ll also have the opportunity to benefit from our on-campus Scriptorium and Homiletics lab.
