Chasing the Lion

The Lady Flames softball team is optimistic about the future of their program with the successful season they had in the spring.

The Flames ended their season with a record of 49-14, the best record that the Lady Flames program has ever had. The team is looking forward to next season with a new mindset.

“The theme for the year is chasing the lion,” junior infielder Autumn Bishop said. “It is all about chasing the obstacles that we are faced with, and taking it all one step at a time.”

Their theme of chasing the lion is linked to joining the Athletic Sun Conference for this upcoming season, filled with new opponents, obstacles and talent.

“The ASUN for softball is the sixth strongest of schedule conferences out of the 32 conferences there are for softball,” head coach Dot Richardson said.

The team believes that with everything they have gone through in recent years and the improvements they have made, they will be ready when it comes time to play.

“We just have a lot of confidence going into the season, we know what we can do now that we have proven ourselves,” Bishop said.

The team is going to have a larger stage this year as they enter the new conference, however their message remains the same.

“Whenever we are out on the field our biggest goal is always to reach more people for Christ, but also to get more people to come to Liberty and know what Liberty is all about,” former player Alexia Taylor said.

Liberty softball gives God the glory for their success over the years with all the improvements the team has made with their record and playoff performances.

“We have committed as a staff and as a team to the Lord, I think all the blessings and favor we have seen as a university and as a program is because of that faithfulness and commitment that we have,” Richardson said.
