Cadet Candidate Orientation (CCO)

Welcome to Air Force ROTC at Detachment 890

Thank you for your interest in the program and for your desire to become an officer in the United States Air Force. The first step in your journey starts in just a few short months. Summer Cadet Candidate Orientation, or CCO, is a voluntary, but HIGHLY recommended, 3-day orientation program, where you will gain basic Air Force knowledge, form bonds with your fellow cadet candidates, and fill out all mandatory paperwork necessary to administratively in-process into the unit.

Those who don’t complete CCO won’t officially become cadets or get issued uniforms until they’ve mastered the basics taught during this course. It is much easier to learn this information during the summer with all your Wingmen than during the school year when you’re already behind. That said, CCO is voluntary — you won’t be penalized if you cannot make it.

CCO takes place on-site at the Liberty University campus.

Summer CCO Training

Your journey begins with Cadet Candidate Orientation (CCO), a voluntary but highly recommended 3-day program designed to introduce you to the basics of Air Force ROTC. Attending CCO makes it easier to learn crucial information before the semester starts rather than trying to catch up while balancing classes.

During CCO, you will:

  • Gain basic Air Force knowledge
  • Bond with your fellow cadet candidates
  • In-process administratively into the Wing

Orientation Checklist

I. Sign up for Cadet Candidate Orientation

Sign-up form is not currently available

II. Set up WINGS account

WINGS is the official AFROTC database used for all administrative processes. Refer to the AFROTC Cadet Enrollment Guide (PDF) to create your WINGS account. Use your university EDU email address, not your personal email. This account is required to participate in the program.

In the screening questions, you will need to review and acknowledge the Dependent Care statements even if you don’t have dependents (e.g. spouse and/or children). If you already have an account, do not create another. If unable to locate account information, reset your username and/or password.

III. Submit required forms and documents

All required documents must be completed before arriving at CCO. Review the in-processing Required Documents list and ensure everything is ready before your arrival.

Once you have created a WINGS account, completed the required documents and uploaded them to WINGS, send an email to admin-afrotc@liberty.edu to verify completion. A cadre member will verify your account and documents. Please allow 5 business days for a response. Account verification must be completed before TD-0.

DoDMETS Account Creation

You must have a qualified medical exam through the Department of Defense Medical Exam Testing System (DoDMETS) in order to participate in our program, become eligible for Field Training, be selected as a Junior, and be on scholarship. To make the process smoother, schedule your exam as soon as possible.

Please be aware that even if you applied to any Military Academy and were initially disqualified, that does not bar you from Military service or participation in the program. This includes AFROTC scholarship candidates who are currently medically disqualified.

See the information below on account creation on the Department of Defense Medical Exam Testing System (DoDMETS) website:

  • DoDMETS website is used to schedule “physical” and “optometry” exams to send to Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB) reviewers
  • Cadre will make accounts for all cadets and will email when created
  • You will not be able to access your account until it’s in the “approved” status
  • Approval takes 7-14 days (Wait until “approved” before reaching out to the cadre)
  • When scheduling exams, the default provider will have the zip code of the Detachment-OL at LU (24515)
  • You may change the provider to whatever location you need
  • Your account will become “inactive” after 45 days of inactivity and will need to be unlocked by cadre

DoDMERB Process

See the process below for Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB)/Defense Medical Accessions Computing System (DMACS). The DoDMERB process can move as quickly as you make it. When required to provide documentation to them, do it as soon as possible. If you’re having difficulty in the process, contact us at AFROTC@liberty.edu, and we will send your documentation on your behalf.

Possible DoDMERB Outcomes:

If you have any questions about DoDMERB and AFROTC scholarship, please email us at admin-afrotc@liberty.edu.

Submit Your In-processing Documents Online

Digitally sign and submit your in-processing documents through Docusign. You will still need to bring your Birth certificate, SSN, sports physical, and any documents related to civil involvement (e.g. speed tickets, parking tickets, etc.) to CCO.

IV. Complete course registration

Ensure you are enrolled in the correct AIRS courses before the semester begins.

If you are not a U.S. citizen, bring any evidence/proof of your pursuit towards U.S. citizenship. You must be a U.S. Citizen by the end of your second academic year in the program. You will also need to bring a copy of your sports physical and any documents related to civil involvement (e.g. speed tickets, parking tickets, etc.).

VI. Prepare for move-in day & in-processing

Liberty University Move-In/Move-Out Information
