LU Send | Getting Started with Study Abroad

Your journey begins here.
LU Send offers a step-by-step advising process to help Liberty students prepare for meaningful, Christ-centered global experiences. Whether you’re just exploring your options or preparing to depart, our advising sessions are designed to guide you every step of the way.
Advising 101
This is the first step in the study abroad process with LU Send. Students will attend a group advising session to learn more about what types of programs we offer and tips for researching different programs. Online students can join these sessions virtually via Microsoft Teams.
Register for an Advising 101 session using the links below.
Advising 201
After students complete Advising 101, they will complete a second group advising session. Advising 201 gives students specific academic guidelines for each type of program (see Choosing a Program) and gives clear action steps for moving forward in the application process.
DCP Consultation
Once students complete both required advising sessions, they are required to meet with a member of the study abroad team to review their DCP and any programs they are interested in. Students will be able to schedule this individual meeting after attending Advising 201.
Advising 301
After applying to their chosen program, students will attend an interactive Advising 301 session the semester before they go abroad. These sessions cover various topics that aim to develop students holistically as they prepare to live abroad. Students will receive an email to register for an Advising 301 session mid-semester.
Please Note: Residential students are required to attend at least one Advising 301 session the semester before they go abroad but are encouraged to attend as many as possible.
Pre-Departure Orientation
Once LU Send has approved a student’s application, the final requirement is attending the mandatory Pre-Departure Training. This session will cover safety and security, cultural intelligence, spiritual vitality and faith, and much more in the context of studying abroad.
Students will receive an email from LU Send to confirm their attendance at Pre-Departure Training mid-semester.
Please Note: Students who fail to attend or do not have an excused absence from LU Send to miss Pre-Departure training will risk not being permitted to travel. Please contact lusendstudyabroad@liberty.edu if you are unable to attend for extenuating circumstances. All requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis, and students who received an approved absence will be contacted to schedule make-up training.
