A Voice for America: Liberty alumna to appear on ‘The 700 Club’ Memorial Day special

On Monday, May 25, Liberty University alumna Amia Nico (’21) will be featured on The Christian Broadcast Network’s flagship program “The 700 Club” in a special Memorial Day segment honoring America’s 250th anniversary.

The classical soprano, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, focusing on education, behavioral sciences, applied voice, and coaching, through Liberty University Online Programs, has performed across the country for many high-profile organizations like NASCAR, PBR, and the MLB.

Known as “America’s Patriotic Vocalist,” Nico has led audiences of over 100,000 in the national anthem. Even more impressively, she recently performed at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Fl, for national faith leaders, dignitaries, and authorities.

“The 700 Club” segment will feature an in-depth interview with Nico and co-host Terry Meeuwsen followed by her 6-minute cinematic orchestral rendition of the national anthem.

Being featured on “The 700 Club” and using her gifted voice to promote America’s Christian heritage, she said, is a culmination of years of diligent work and reliance on God.

“This is something I’ve always wanted to do,” said Nico, who was born in West Virginia and raised in Virginia Beach, Va. “I believed that God wanted to use me and my voice specifically to be a great blessing to many. And to see that finally realized in more significant ways has been a tremendous gift to me.”

The desire to perform patriotic arrangements took shape in 2018, when she and her husband, David, were watching an NFL game on television. Nico said she was “filled with American pride” while hearing the pregame national anthem performance.

“When I witnessed that, I was blessed by that performance,” said Nico, who later recorded demos and distributed them to booking agencies, hoping to be selected for stadium vocal performances. “It really just takes a step of faith forward, and God said that if we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give us the desires of our hearts (Ps. 37:4), and we have seen that come to pass.”

God opened those doors for Nico to use her talents for Christ — and her love of country — on the national stage. She has inspired patriotism in her performances at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama, and many other large-scale venues.

Through it all, she hopes her performances motivate others toward gratitude and deep appreciation for America and its founding ideals rooted in Scripture.

“First and foremost, my hope and my prayer is that this nation will see how blessed it really is,” Nico said. “This nation was founded on the Word of God, godly principles. And this nation has the potential and has proven to show itself to be greater than any other nation in the world. And what a privilege it is to live in a nation where you are free, you can dream, and you can become all that God has called and created you to be.”

She said her husband has been a constant example of encouragement, lifting her up with support throughout her career of writing over 200 songs and performing in stressful, high-stakes environments.

“Even in the times when I doubted myself, he never doubted me,” she said. “He’s been such a wonderful example of Christ in our marriage.”

“Even backstage, she will take five minutes just to pray for somebody,” David Nico said. “No one sees those things, but I see them, and God sees them. That’s the character of someone who has earned the right to be on those stages, because behind the scenes she has been faithful to the Lord.”

During her time as a student at Liberty, Nico said she was encouraged spiritually by her professors and classmates. While pursuing her bachelor’s degree, she “only dreamed” the Lord would elevate her to a position where she can remind listeners of America’s greatness.

“This country has gone through many hardships, and God has given all believers gifts and talents they can multiply to impact this nation and glorify God,” she said. “We’re here right at the edge of America’s 250th anniversary as a country. I wrote “America” as a special song and tribute to this nation. It is a reminder how blessed by God we are to live in America.”

The “700 Club” Memorial Day segment will be broadcast nationwide on Monday on Freeform, TBN, and CBN. For a limited time, her single “America” will be available for free to download through Nico’s website on Monday morning.
