Liberty President Dondi Costin, multiple alumni take part in America Reads the Bible event in D.C.

Liberty University President Dr. Dondi E. Costin read Acts 10-11 for the America Reads the Bible event in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, joining hundreds of Christian leaders in covering the country in Scripture in celebration of its 250th birthday. The weeklong event was televised and livestreamed from the Museum of the Bible.

Hosted by the organization Christians Engaged April 19-25, the event brought together voices from many spheres of influence, including government, education, business, the arts, and the Church, for a public reading of the entire Bible. The event served as a spiritual celebration of America’s founding ideals and was a call to all Americans to rediscover the truth that still anchors the nation today.

“I was deeply blessed to join fellow believers from across the country in this historic moment as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary,” said President Costin. “These public readings are a good reminder that the Bible is not only essential to our moral and spiritual foundation but also to our entire political system of freedom and justice for all. This experience only reinforces Liberty’s indispensable mission of Training Champions for Christ across all academic disciplines.”

Other Liberty alumni who read Scripture for the event included Liberty Board of Trustees member and Concerned Women for America CEO and President Penny Nance (’89), former Texas State Rep. Hon. Matt Krause (’07), contemporary Christian recording artist Meredith Andrews (’05), influencer and author Christian Hodges (’26), and Standing for Freedom Center communications specialist Grant May (’24). The 70th Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, director of Liberty’s Center for Law & Government, also participated, as well as the 19th U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner, who will provide the keynote address for Liberty’s 53rd Main Commencement Ceremony May 15.
