Liberty University’s Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field teams will host the ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex, the teams’ last indoor championship as members of the ASUN. Beginning with the 2023-24 season, the Flames and Lady Flames will compete in Conference USA.
The 169,000-square-foot track complex has become a staple for ASUN competition since opening in January 2017. This year will be the sixth consecutive year, and fifth as the member of the ASUN, that Liberty will host the event at the Brant Tolsma Indoor Track, named in honor of its longtime coach. Tolsma served as Liberty’s head coach for the indoor and outdoor track & field as well as cross country programs for 34 years before retiring in 2020.
The facility has seen many highlights for the Flames and Lady Flames. The men’s team has won all previous conference championships that it has competed in there, dating back to 2018, and the women’s team has won all except for the 2021 ASUN title. The Flames have currently won 25 straight indoor conference championships since joining the NCAA Division I level. The Lady Flames have won conference championships in the past 25 years.
Competition begins at 9 a.m. Friday with the heptathlon 60-meter dash and starts again on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles.
Admission is free. Fans can also follow along through live video streaming from 3-6:30 p.m. on Friday and noon-4 p.m. on Saturday on ESPN+.
