In front of a Williams Stadium record crowd of 22,551 fans, Liberty University (No. 15/14) jumped out to a quick two-score lead and held on to defeat Montana (No. 8/7) 31-21 in a football matchup on Saturday. This was the first-ever Top 15 showdown in stadium history.
The victory capped off Hall of Fame, Fall Family, and College For A Weekend events on Liberty Mountain. The crowd surpassed that of last year’s Homecoming attendance of 20,838 fans.
With the win, the Flames move to 2-1 on the season and marked the team’s sixth victory over a ranked FCS opponent in four seasons under Head Coach Turner Gill. It also gave Liberty its third win over a Top 10 opponent in the last four years.
