Challenge Coin Policy
Challenge coins originated in the military as a way to recognize service, build unit identity, and foster camaraderie. Their use has since grown to include first responders, veterans’ organizations, and other public service groups — but the tradition and the meaning behind the coins has remained consistent.
When that standard isn’t maintained, the coins lose the significance they hold — especially for those who have served. Out of respect for that tradition, the university does not authorize the creation or distribution of challenge coins for clubs, departments, or organizations without a military or public service affiliation.
