Eagle Scholars (ESP) emphasizes community service as part of the curriculum. Students have the opportunity to give their time and talents in a variety of ways. The following is taken from our Service Activity assignment. Students choose one activity from the list and contribute a minimum of 2 hours.
Students can share a lesson they learned, with a variety of audiences: Sunday School class, residence hall meeting or small group, etc. The lesson plan must include 2-3 insights and 2-3 discussion questions to facilitate interaction. Students can work in pairs.
LU and the surrounding area offer a multitude of opportunities to serve. Students will handle the logistics for their activity.
Students can research the activities facilitated by LU Serve and volunteer with that dept.
Students can assist the ESP Director in recruiting activities. They work with ESP leadership to plan and carry out the recruiting efforts for CFAW. This helps students interact with visitors and work on networking skills.
Students will assist ESP leadership with the planning, and logistics of these events. They are invited to help create enjoyable activities.
Students will assist ESP leadership with the planning, and logistics for the Spring Retreat. Several students are needed who will take an active role in creating an enjoyable retreat.
Students can plan and carry out a nursing home ministry activity. They can work in groups to create activities appropriate for these settings.
Students can create a video Bible study for use in either an in-person setting or for a nursing home or any other health care scenario that does not allow visitors during a time of crisis (COVID-19). They can work in groups of 2-3 to choose a scripture passage and create the main lesson idea. Each person can teach one lesson/insight. The total video length should be around 7-10 minutes.
Students can propose a service activity not listed above.
