Military Leadership Minor – Air Force
As a part of the program, you will be eligible to add the Military Leadership Minor – Air Force. You’ll study modern military history and gain leadership skills as you complete the required courses for commissioning among Air Force ROTC cadets. This minor is offered through ROTC and is restricted to students who are contracted Air Force ROTC cadets.
Training Breakdown
- CCO (Cadet Candidate Orientation): Introductory training that familiarizes new cadets with AFROTC standards, expectations, customs, and basic drill.
- ODT (Officer Development Training): Various summer or short-term voluntary training opportunities for cadets to experience Air or Space Force life, explore officer career fields, and develop leadership skills beyond their normal AFROTC training. See Air Force officer development opportunities
- PMT (Practical Military Training): All mandatory, hands-on, military-focused training activities (like LLAB, PT, Field Training) and certain approved events (like base visits) designed to develop future Air and Space Force officers, covering skills from leadership and physical fitness to air or space power knowledge, ensuring cadets meet professional standards for commissioning.
Field Training
During Field Training, you can expect an intense, structured environment designed to test your leadership, discipline, and adaptability under pressure.
Over roughly three weeks, you’ll live in close quarters with your peers while completing physically- and mentally-demanding activities – such as drill, physical fitness assessments, obstacle courses, and leadership reaction exercises. The days are long, regimented, and filled with evaluations on everything from attention to detail and teamwork to military bearing and followership.
Field Training isn’t about perfection – it’s about growth. Cadets should expect to be challenged, to make mistakes, and to learn from them as they develop into confident, mission-ready leaders prepared for the Professional Officer Course (POC).
