Whenever possible, remain inside to stay warm and safe. If you need to go outside, dress in layers, including hats, gloves, and waterproof footwear, to protect against the cold.
- Stick to Main roads if Driving
Avoid back roads that may be less maintained and more dangerous during snow and ice conditions. Stick to main roads and highways that are more likely to be treated.
- Stay Informed with Trusted Sources
Monitor updates from reliable sources like the National Weather Service (NWS), Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM), and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). Download the ChampionSafe app for updated safety notifications.
- Know Who to Call in an Emergency at LU
In case of an emergency at LU, contact the LUECC at (434) 592-3911 for assistance. Save this number in your phone for quick access.
- Take Your Time and Use Caution
Whether driving or walking, don’t rush. Snow and ice can create hidden hazards, so move carefully and remain aware of your surroundings.
