LU Public Service Notification: WINTER WEATHER THREAT IN EFFECT FROM Saturday morning through Monday afternoon. Heavy mixed precipitation mainly snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Accumulations throughout the weekend will vary. This storm will affect all of Virginia. Winds and weight of snow or ice on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause power outages. Travel will be very difficult to impossible. The Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM), the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), and the Virginia State Police (VSP) have requested that travel cease by 7:00 P.M. on Saturday EST. January 24, 2026.

Consider the following information:

1. Stay Indoors or Dress in Layers if Going Out: Whenever possible, remain inside to stay warm and safe. If you need to go outside, dress in layers, including hats, gloves, and waterproof footwear, to protect against the cold.

2. Avoid Travel: From 7:00 P.M. Saturday until 9:00 A.M. Monday, travel is highly discouraged due to dangerous roadway conditions.

3. Stay Informed with Trusted Sources: Monitor updates from reliable sources like the National Weather Service (NWS), VDEM, and VDOT. Download the Champion Safe app for local alerts and safety information tailored to Lynchburg, VA.

4. Know Who to Call in an Emergency at LU: In case of an emergency at LU, contact the LU Emergency Communications Center (LUECC) at (434) 592-3911 for assistance. Save this number in your phone for quick access.
