Liberty to hold Life March on campus this Friday

Since the March for Life will be holding virtual ceremonies in lieu of an in-person march this year, which was slated to be held in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 29, Liberty University’s Standing for Freedom Center has organized its own march — The Life March — on Liberty’s campus this Friday at noon to rally in support of the pro-life cause.

Immediately following a virtual Convocation keynote address from conservative commentator, author, and host of the Relatable Podcast Allie Beth Stuckey, students, and other university affiliates are invited to gather outside the Montview Student Union to participate. Stuckey and Liberty alum and conservative personality David Benham will charge the march.

“Abortion was the leading cause of death in the United States and in the world in 2020,” said Executive Director of the Freedom Center Ryan Helfenbein. “Abortion claimed more lives than heart disease, cancer, and Covid-19, by far. That’s why the pro-life cause is the number one justice issue of our time. Christians have a moral mandate from God to defend our most vulnerable in society who are made in the image of God. That starts with babies in the womb.”

Culture of Life 1972 and Students for Life LU are co-sponsors of the campus event, with Culture of Life 1972 donating 600 beanies for attendants to wear.

The Life March will begin at the heart of campus, the Freedom Tower. Demonstrators will march toward University Boulevard and wrap around the campus bookstore; they will pass the School of Business building, Liberty Arena, and Commons 1 and 2 before heading back toward the Academic Lawn.

“The pro-life cause is not just about being pro-birth but pro-mother; giving moms who are in crisis pregnancy and post-abortive moms who are in need of counseling, the resources and care they need,” Helfenbein said. “That’s why we’ve invited representatives from both the Blue Ridge Crisis Pregnancy Center and the Liberty Godparent Home to join us on Friday. And we encourage all students, faculty, and staff to join us in the Liberty Life March to raise our voice collectively for the unborn and for mothers.”

The Life March is not open to the public, as the university remains closed during the pandemic to anyone other than students, parents of resident students, employees, and those doing university business.
