Lyons selected by Oakland on second day of MLB Draft

Liberty Flames pitcher Jared Lyons was selected in the ninth round by the Oakland Athletics on the second day of the 2015 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft on Tuesday.

The Athletics chose Lyons, who finished his career in a Flames uniform this past season, with the 278th overall pick of this year’s draft.

The left-hander becomes the highest Liberty draft pick since outfielder Ian Parmley was taken with the seventh round by the Toronto Blue Jays and John Niggli was selected in the ninth round by the Texas Rangers in 2012.
