School of Behavioral Sciences announces interim dean

Liberty University has announced that School of Behavioral Sciences Dean Dr. Kenyon Knapp has stepped down from his role as dean after eight years of service. He will remain on faculty with the school. Dr. Jeff Boatner, who previously served as associate dean of the School of Behavioral Sciences, has been named interim dean.
“We are grateful for Dr. Knapp’s service to the School of Behavioral Sciences and Liberty University,” said Dr. Chris Kennedy, Vice Provost for Health Affairs. “As the school moves forward, Dr. Boatner’s experience within the school and commitment to its mission will help ensure a smooth transition and continued support for students and faculty. We look forward to working with him in this new role.”
During his time at Liberty, Knapp served the School of Behavioral Sciences through teaching, scholarship, and service. He also supported key academic initiatives and accreditation efforts that contributed to the school’s continued growth and success. His dedication to the university community leaves a meaningful impact on the school.
Boatner has served at Liberty since 2014. As associate dean, he worked closely with faculty, academic programs, and school leadership while helping advance the school’s educational mission and strategic priorities. He also serves as a faculty member in the Department of Counselor Education and Family Studies.
Boatner holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Liberty University, an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Southern California Seminary, and a B.A. in Psychology from Christian Heritage College.
“I am honored by the opportunity to serve the School of Behavioral Sciences in this interim role,” Boatner said. “God has assembled an exceptional team of faculty and staff who are passionate about equipping students to serve individuals, families, and communities with excellence, compassion, and a Christ-centered perspective.
