Get ready to Fuel the Fire for Liberty’s Giving Day Oct. 22

With new ways of connecting donors to the campaigns and causes they care about most, Liberty University’s Giving Day on Oct. 22 is poised to be yet another exciting day of generosity and school spirit as the Liberty community supports the mission of Training Champions for Christ.
Giving Day is 24 hours of intentional generosity to fuel the fire of Liberty’s academic, athletic, and spiritual programs. Donors can choose from over 110 campaigns this year.
Last year’s Giving Day raised over $5 million through 6,976 gifts.
New this year is a Giving Day Fest for students from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Academic Lawn featuring games, free donuts, giveaways, and a chance to connect with staff from the Office of Development. Students who sign up to be a Giving Day ambassador will receive a free Giving Day T-shirt and be entered into a grand prize drawing for a 50-inch 4K Smart TV or Beats headphones.
Throughout Giving Day, university figures like Vickey Costin (wife of President Dondi E. Costin), Shari Falwell (wife of Chancellor Jonathan Falwell), Liberty mascot Sparky, and coaches will be driving around campus in Giving Day-themed golf carts handing out candy and Giving Day resources.
Donors can make a gift online at the Giving Day website. The portal is already open and will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on Giving Day. Wherever donors decide to give, 100 percent of the funds goes directly to the chosen cause.
In order to help donors better understand how their money will benefit the schools and their unique needs, each school’s donation page lists a “Giving Day Priority” set by the deans that is integral to the mission and vision of Training Champions for Christ. There is also a new “Find a Fund” feature that allows donors to search available funds for specific giving opportunities.
As in previous years, anyone who registers to become a Giving Day Ambassador will receive a personal link to share with friends, family, and others as they spread the word about Giving Day while competing to support their favorite school, club, or athletic program. Anyone can be an ambassador, whether they are an alumnus, current student, faculty, staff, or any other member of the Liberty community with a cause close to their heart.
As people donate through the link, ambassadors can unlock prizes, including Liberty apparel, lunch with Convocation guests and VIPs, and different accommodations for Flames Football games. There are multiple challenges throughout the day — including sharing fun photos on social media — that can move ambassadors up the leaderboard.
“Giving Day is a great opportunity for us to show generosity towards and our support for Liberty University,” Executive Vice President of Development Brian Mentzer said. “Ultimately our students are the beneficiaries, and they are the leaders of tomorrow. Please join us in contributing towards a bright future through Giving Day.”
