As college students experience revival on campuses across the country and around the world, Liberty University is holding several events this week for its students to focus on prayer and spiritual renewal, all coinciding with a main event on Thursday night, when the campus serves as the host site for the global Collegiate Day of Prayer broadcast.
At Wednesday morning’s Convocation, Liberty will welcome Pastor Jonathan Pokluda, UniteUs founder Tonya Prewett, and Christian content creator Bryce Crawford for a Next Gen Revival Prayer Panel. On Wednesday night, Pokluda will deliver the message at the Campus Community service, continuing the semester-long Psalms of Ascent series. Then, starting at midnight, Liberty will kick off its regular 24-hour prayer event, where students, faculty, and staff are invited to gather at the Worley Prayer Chapel and in other designated spaces to pray for college students and universities locally, nationally, and globally. The prayer time will transition to the Vines Center at 7:30 p.m., where the entire Liberty community, local churches, and other guests are invited to take part in the Collegiate Day of Prayer. The event will be livestreamed from 8-10 p.m., available through the Collegiate Day of Prayer website, Facebook page and YouTube channel, as well as on the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN). The 24-hour prayer will then continue until midnight.
“It’s no secret that God has been on the move in college campuses, obviously here at Liberty, but also campuses all over our country,” said Liberty Worship Collective Executive Director Kevin Huguley, noting revival events at Asbury University, Ohio State, and Auburn University. “Weaving that into what God is also doing on our campus in the spiritual vitality of what we see God doing the past few years, with His favor on spiritual formation and development taking place on campus, we’re using this last Thursday of February to highlight what He has done and continues to do.”
“It’s incredible to see our students really want to seek the face of God,” he added. “It’s really beautiful.”
This year marks the first time Liberty has been selected as the host site for the global broadcast and its third year to participate. The annual event dates back over 200 years, uniting campuses, churches, and ministries in prayer for revival and awakening on college campuses worldwide. The Collegiate Day of Prayer organization operates as a coalition of collegiate ministries and church networks and is led by a representative steering team of these partner organizations.
Liberty President Dr. Dondi E. Costin, Chancellor Jonathan Falwell, and Vice President of Spiritual Development Joshua Rutledge will help lead Thursday’s main event.
On Friday, apologist and pastor Cliffe Knechtle will take the Convocation stage to close out the week. Knechtle was a popular speaker when he visited campus for the first time in Fall 2024.
