Lady Flames Soccer earns fourth consecutive Team Ethics and Sportsmanship honor

The Liberty Women’s Soccer team has received the 2025 United Soccer Coaches Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award for the fourth straight year, the organization recently announced. The Lady Flames were recognized as one of 45 men’s and women’s teams to receive the honor which highlights teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior, and adherence to the laws of the game.
The Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award contains four levels, Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. Liberty qualified for the Bronze Award. The awards are determined by the amount of yellow and red cards received throughout the season, divided by the number of games played. A total of 19 teams received the Bronze Award, which is presented to teams that accumulate a percentage of cards ranging from 31-50%. The Lady Flames finished the 2025 season with nine yellow cards for a percentage of .364.
Liberty was one of four NCAA Division I women’s soccer programs to receive the honor, along with Akron, Houston Christian, and UMass. Liberty is the only Division I program to receive the award in consecutive seasons. The Lady Flames previously qualified for the award in its three most recent seasons.
The Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award is one of three qualifications for programs to receive the United Soccer Coaches Team Pinnacle Award, an award that Liberty has also received over the past three years (2022, 2023, 2024). Programs must also be awarded the 2025 Team Academic Award and finish with a winning percentage of .750 or higher (.810, 2024).
On the Team Pinnacle Award, Head Cach Lang Wedemeyer said, “Receiving the Pinnacle Award is a great honor and a huge testament to the hard work and integrity displayed, every day, by our student-athletes.”
