Liberty University student-athletes are celebrating recent improvements to their facilities for this academic year as the university seeks to advance its thriving NCAA Division I programs.

Crews recently finished work on a new 100-acre addition to the Liberty Golf Practice Facility, adjacent to the Clarkson Clubhouse and the Hall Landrey Training Center at Lone Jack Road on Liberty Mountain. The improvements include a training course with six greens that have various approaches and can be played as 18 holes with different distances of up to 7,940 yards. (View the course layout.)

During a ribbon cutting ceremony on Sept. 19, Head Coach Jeff Thomas said when he accepted a position with Liberty Men’s Golf in 2002, he had one goal: “to create a facility where young men can come and train for golf to become professionals and play on the PGA tour, (with) nice enough facilities and hopefully a good enough coach to represent them well and keep them here when they (graduate). We’re starting to do that now and that’s why this facility is important.”

“This is one of the finest golf practice facilities in the country,” added Vice President and Director of Athletics Ian McCaw. “So we’re really fortunate to have this for the team to use. It will be a great addition for many years to come. It’s very flexible. With the three different tee boxes, they can adjust the difficulty of the holes so it will give them championship course preparation.”

Baseball

Liberty Baseball’s new state-of-the-art pitching lab

On Aug. 22, Liberty Baseball hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new player development addition at Liberty Baseball Stadium. This 5,000-square-foot space, completed last spring, spans two stories and includes four batting tunnels and a state-of-the-art pitching lab. The space also includes multiple monitors displaying game footage of upcoming opposing pitchers to help batters prepare for future matchups.

“This is a great facility. We are really excited to be adding it,” McCaw said. “What’s really unique is there’s not a lot of pitching labs like this in the country. We are very blessed to have that for our baseball program. The student-athletes will be beneficiaries of this great facility, and it will certainly make a big impact for our program.”

“(The facility) is another game changer here at Liberty Baseball when it comes the development of our student-athletes, on top of our weightlifting program and recruiting,” Baseball Head Coach Bradley LeCroy said. “It has served huge in recruiting future pitchers for our program. It is as good as anywhere in the country when it comes to selling our program and vision, knowing a student-athlete is going to come here, get better, and get everything they need to get better.”

Women’s Lacrosse & Field Hockey

Last spring, Liberty Athletics completed several additions to the East Campus Field House, home to the Lady Flames Field Hockey and Lacrosse programs. The building now features new team rooms totaling 2,155 square feet. New dugouts were also constructed on the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
