Liberty earns award for top winning percentage among all NCAA Division I programs in Virginia

Liberty Athletics finished the 2024-25 season with the top winning percentage in the Commonwealth of Virginia to capture this year’s VaSID All-Sports Survey award.

Liberty’s athletics programs finished the 2024-25 season with a 63.2 winning percentage (229-132-7). The Flames posted the top winning percentage among the 14 NCAA Division I athletics programs in the Commonwealth.

“We are blessed with incredible support from President Costin, Chancellor Falwell and our university leadership,” said Liberty Vice President and Director of Athletics Ian McCaw. “Our coaches, staff and student-athletes performed exceptionally last year, and God has shown us much favor.”

The Flames finished ahead of Virginia (62.6 percent/269-160-4), Richmond (61.4 percent/153-96), James Madison (54.8 percent/182-149-11), and George Mason (54.6 percent/189-157-1).

This is the third time in department history that Liberty Athletics has finished the year with the top winning percentage in Virginia — all three honors came in the last five years. The Flames also accomplished the feat in 2020-21 (70.5 percent/220-90-7) and 2021-22 (65.4 percent/235-124-1).

During the last two athletics seasons, Liberty Athletics has experienced comprehensive success unlike any span of time in the 50-plus year history of the department.

Fifteen of Liberty’s 20 NCAA Division I athletics programs have won a regular season or tournament championship during the last two years, resulting in 25 total conference titles.

During the 2024-25 athletics season, Liberty Athletics captured double-digit Conference USA titles for the second year in a row, bringing home 11 CUSA trophies. 

Softball, men’s basketball and women’s basketball each swept the CUSA regular-season and tournament crowns, while women’s soccer (regular season), women’s indoor track & field, women’s outdoor track & field, women’s cross country, and men’s cross country won single CUSA championships.

Women’s lacrosse and women’s swimming & diving both claimed Atlantic Sun crowns, bringing Liberty Athletics’ yearly total to 13 total conference championships in 2024-25.       

Liberty Athletics also finished the 2024-25 season ranked No. 97 in the final Learfield Director’s Cup standings, which ranks the top collegiate athletics departments in the country.
