Sadie Robertson Huff, for King & Country, Tony Dungy highlight Spring Convocation schedule

UPDATE 1/16/24: Sadie Robertson Huff, originally scheduled to visit Convocation on Jan. 17, has been rescheduled to Feb. 2 due to inclement weather on Liberty’s campus.

Students at Liberty University will have the opportunity to hear from faith-led voices in a variety of fields this spring during the university’s semiweekly Convocations. From influential authors and speakers to prominent pastors, theologians, many outspoken figures will reinforce Liberty’s mission of Training Champions for Christ by sharing how they have followed the Lord in their lives and careers.

Sadie Robertson Huff will be the first Convocation guest of the semester on Jan. 17.

Liberty’s Convocation remains the largest weekly gathering of Christian students in the world, featuring powerful worship, prayer, and inspirational speakers.

The spring schedule was announced by Chancellor Jonathan Falwell during Friday morning’s New Student Convocation. (See the full schedule below. Dates and speakers are subject to change; for updates, visit the Office of Spiritual Development webpage.)

The schedule kicks off on Monday, Jan. 15, the first day of classes after Winter Break, with a special Morning Glory Sunrise Worship Service open to all students at 7 a.m. in the Center for Music and the Worship Arts, Concert Hall. Then on Wednesday, students will welcome a familiar guest to the Vines Center in Sadie Robertson Huff. Huff has become a bestselling author and popular speaker in the years following her family’s reality television show, “Duck Dynasty.” In 2014, she founded Live Original, a women’s ministry with the goal of being “a sister and friend to all” through its blog, conference and events, podcast, and smartphone app. The Robertson family has strong connections to Liberty; various members, including Willie and Korie Robertson, Sadie’s parents, have been special guests at Convocation or Commencement. Sadie’s brother John Luke and his wife, Mary Kate, are alumni.

On March 8, Liberty will welcome senior pastor and founder of Life.Church Craig Groeschel, one of many pastors on the schedule this semester. After founding Life.Church in 1996 with his wife, Amy, Groeschel has seen the church grow to dozens of locations all over the United States. Life.Church launched the first fully digital church experience in 2006 and the most downloaded mobile Bible app in history, YouVersion, in 2008.

NFL Hall of Fame coach Tony Dungy will be speaking on April 5.

On March 20, television broadcaster Sage Steele will take the Convocation stage. Steele was a longtime anchor for ESPN, including its flagship program, “SportsCenter,” from 2007-23 and has hosted a wide variety of shows and live events both in and out of the sports world. She has spoken about how her faith in God has led her through the ups and downs of her life and career.

Faith and sports will again be the theme when former NFL coach Tony Dungy visits Liberty on April 5. Dungy spent 13 years as a head coach in the NFL, leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Indianapolis Colts. He capped off the Colts’ 2006 season with a Super Bowl XLI win. Dungy is a two-time NFL Coach of the Year (1997 and 2005). He is a New York Times bestselling author, with multiple books on leadership, family, and living the Christian life.

Christian pop duo for King & Country will be returning to Liberty Convocation on April 12.

The following week, on April 12, the Christian pop duo for King & Country, featuring brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone, will be returning to the Vines Center with their award-winning music. The group has won four Grammy Awards and performed their Christ-infused music in venues around the world.

Convocation is held every Wednesday and Friday at 10:30 a.m. EST in the Vines Center and is open to the entire student body. Most of the events are streamed live on Liberty’s YouTube channel, Liberty’s main Facebook page and the Office of Spiritual Development Facebook page.
