Chadwell cheers on hockey team with newly won championship trophy

Flames Football Coach Jamey Chadwell with Liberty hockey fans

Fresh off of winning Liberty University Football’s first conference championship, Head Coach Jamey Chadwell visited the LaHaye Ice Center (LIC) to watch the ACHA Division I men’s hockey team’s Midnight Mayhem game  on Dec. 2. After Liberty Football defeated New Mexico State 49-35 on Friday evening at nearby Williams Stadium to conclude a perfect 13-0 season, Chadwell joined fans in the stands at the LIC early Saturday morning to cheer the hockey team to victory over Pittsburgh and to showcase the Conference USA Championship trophy.

During the game, Chadwell took to the ice to address Flames fans and thank them for their support in his first season on the sidelines and to congratulate the team on being conference champions in its first season in the CUSA.

“It has been a special season, and what has made it a special season is the support each and every one of you have given to our team,” he said. “So, when we lift this trophy, know that we’re lifting it for you, we’re lifting it for everyone that came before us and the rest that came after us because we are all under Him. We’re thankful for that. We’re thankful for Jesus and the blessings he gave us this year.”

Liberty hockey won a decisive 5-3 battle against Pittsburgh before replicating the success in Saturday evening’s rematch with a 3-1 triumph. After a month-long hiatus, the team will return to the LIC for a two-game series against Syracuse on Jan. 19-20.

Flames Football (ranked No. 23 by the CFP committee) will return to the gridiron on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2024, to compete against No. 8 Oregon in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.
