Semester ends, Liberty Athletics rolls on

The spring semester may have ended last week and students headed home for the summer, but Liberty’s athletic programs remain in full force with several teams closing out the regular season and transitioning into postseason play.

After dominating in the 2023 ASUN Men’s Golf Championship on April 26, Liberty Golf is competing in the NCAA Bath Regional from Monday through Wednesday at Eagle Eye Golf Club in Bath, Mich. The Flames, who have qualified for 11 of the last 12 regional competitions, are seeded No. 7 out of 13 teams in their pool and No. 39 in the nation.

Despite losing hard fought extra-inning battles to North Alabama and Central Arkansas in the 2023 ASUN Softball Championship, the Lady Flames received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division I Softball Championship. The team will compete in this Friday’s through Sunday’s Los Angeles Regional, hosted by UCLA, in a bracket that includes No. 2 UCLA, Grand Canyon, and San Diego State . The winner of this bracket will advance to Super Regionals. This marks the Lady Flames first ever at large bid to the NCAA Division I Softball Championship and their third straight appearance in the tournament.

The Flames’ Baseball team will conclude its regular season with a three-game home series against Bellarmine. Liberty, which is currently ranked No. 7 in the ASUN, will need to remain in the top eight spots to earn a bid to the May 23-28, 2023 ASUN Baseball Championship.

Liberty’s Men’s and Women’s Track & Field teams will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., for the 2023 NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet from May 24-27. The Flames and Lady Flames concluded their time in the ASUN by snatching both the men’s and women’s titles at the 2023 ASUN Outdoor Track & Field Championships. These victories marked the 16th straight outdoor track & field conference championship for the Flames and the Lady Flames’ third in the last four years.

Liberty Tennis will compete Universal Tennis National Invitational Tennis (NIT) Championship, May 17-20. The Flames concluded conference play on April 21 with a 4-0 loss to North Florida in the semifinals of the ASUN Championship.

Liberty’s men’s and women’s rowing team will compete in a field of 70 club programs in Friday’s through Sunday’s American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) National Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The Flames and Lady Flames will enter four total boats, a Women’s Varsity 4 and Novice 8 and Men’s Novice 4 and Double.
