Gospel music group The Collingsworth Family to perform in concert

The Collingsworth Family

This summer, The Collingsworth Family, a gospel music singing group from Ohio, will visit the Liberty University School of Music to film two live full-capacity concert DVD recordings on consecutive nights in the Center for Music and the Worship Arts Concert Hall. Both evenings’ concerts, set for Aug. 6 and 7, will feature School of Music students, alumni, and faculty who will make up the orchestra, conducted by award-winning Christian music composer and arranger Bradley Knight.

“I am really excited to have The Collingsworth Family with us in August,” School of Music Dean Dr. Stephen Müller said. “Not only are they one of the leading groups in Southern Gospel music, but they are also great people. Phil and Kim (and family) have created a brand that is known in churches and in the music industry across the country.”

Tickets will go on sale today, May 25, and may be purchased online. (A 50%-off discount will be available for Liberty students, faculty, staff, and alumni; email som@liberty.edu for the code.)

Led by parents Phil and Kim, the family music group officially began touring in January 2000 and now performs roughly 100 shows a year. The group now features all four of the couple’s children who perform alongside their parents at every show.

Through various connections with Liberty, Phil and Kim Collingsworth traveled to Lynchburg, Va., last summer to discuss the possibility of a partnership with Liberty that would benefit both the university’s School of Music students and The Collingsworth Family.

Recently, the group signed with Gaither Music Group and part of that partnership includes a Live DVD release to complement each new full-scale recording project.

Phil Collingsworth said the video component to their music prompted a discussion with the School of Music, which possesses state-of-the-art music facilities ideal for video or audio recording. The Friday evening concert (Aug. 6) will reveal the new album while Saturday’s concert will showcase The Collingsworth Family’s 2019 Christmas album, “A True Family Christmas.”

“This is the beginning of a partnership that will encourage and inspire our students as they train for and launch out into the careers God has called them to, whether that be as worship leaders, artists, educators, studio technicians, or Southern Gospel performers,” Müller said.
