Liberty University’s American Marketing Association (AMA) chapter is among hundreds of college chapters across the United States and Canada, but those odds didn’t prevent it from receiving two recognitions at the 42nd AMA International Collegiate Conference March 12-14 in New Orleans, La.
The chapter received an Honorable Mention in the AMA Collegiate National Case competition, one of the AMA’s biggest competitions where a sponsoring company challenges students to develop a marketing strategy to help the company achieve their needs. Liberty was also one of 36 chapters to be recognized for Outstanding Chapter Planning — a first for Liberty’s group.
“The success of this year’s chapter was achieved through a collaboration of truly dedicated students who volunteered their time well above their normal school workload to form an outstanding Board of Directors,” said Dr. Chris Huseman, associate professor of marketing, who has served three years as the chapter’s faculty advisor. “Every week of the school year, the leadership team produced opportunities for the members to participate in. We saw tremendous growth in the membership, the number of events and speakers, and the overall awareness of our chapter on campus.”
Huseman said the chapter provides workshops for digital marketing certifications, showcases industry software and how to use it, hosts guest speakers, and provides hands-on marketing consulting events for student entrepreneurs with local businesses.
The AMA has over 325 collegiate chapters. As a member, Liberty’s chapter has multiple local and nationwide opportunities to compete in certification workshops from industry-leading digital marketing companies, to listen to nationally recognized guest speakers, and to perform marketing duties for local nonprofit organizations and Liberty clubs.
“The select members who participated in the National Case Competition met weekly throughout the year in addition to the regular weekly club activities,” Huseman said. “The strong commitment of our members and the fact that we have several of them returning to compete in next year’s competition has us poised again to make Liberty University a nationally recognized marketing program. I can’t wait for the fall semester.”
