Sparkling new Liberty Natatorium to be christened Friday night

The Lady Flames' Swimming & Diving team has hosted two meets in the Liberty Natatorium this season, including a soft opening on Dec. 1-2, 2017. (Photo by Leah Seavers) Grand opening festivities for the Liberty Natatorium, which adjoins the Liberty Indoor Track Complex that opened last year, are set for Friday at 5:45 p.m.

Liberty President Jerry Falwell, Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance CEO Meghan Lucas, Lady Flames Swimming & Diving Head Coach Jake Shellenberger, and Liberty Director of Athletics Ian McCaw will comment on the state-of-the-art facility and what it adds to the university and surrounding community. They will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony after Dr. Ed Gomes, the Athletics’ Department’s Director of Spiritual Development, offers a dedicatory prayer.

The ceremonies will pre-empt the Lady Flames’ Swimming & Diving team tri-meet against George Mason and VMI that will begin Friday at 6 p.m. and continue Saturday at 11 a.m. (Read a full preview on the Athletics website). The weekend will also be highlighted by Senior Day, honoring the Lady Flames’ seven senior swimmers and divers, and an alumnae reunion.
