Best-selling author, comedian Ken Davis delivers message on obedience

Ken Davis, best-selling author, Christian comedian, and motivational speaker, encouraged Liberty University students at Monday’s Convocation to obey the voice of God rather than make excuses in their life.

Davis is the president of Dynamic Communications International, an organization geared toward teaching speaking skills to ministry professionals and corporate executives, and training the next generation of leaders. His daily radio show “Lighten Up!” is heard on over 1,500 stations in the United States and around the world.

In his second time speaking at Liberty, Davis blended his lighthearted delivery with biblical truth and humor, engaging students and evoking laughter with tales of embarrassing “senior moments” and humorous stories from his life.

Davis based his message on his book “Fully Alive,” which he signed for students after Convocation.

“God in His sovereignty has chosen to pay attention (to you), and what He wants for you is to live ‘fully alive’ and you do this by paying attention to Him,” Davis said.

Ken Davis signed copies of his book, ‘Fully Alive,’ following Convocation.

Davis used the well-known story of Moses and the burning bush in which God asked Moses to go to Egypt to deliver the Hebrews from slavery under Pharaoh, and Moses answered with excuses. Davis said that in God’s divine will, He has chosen people to do His work and making excuses accomplishes nothing because God will supply everything that is lacking.

“When God calls and you hear that ringtone in your life there is only one answer: ‘Yes, Lord send me and show me a life of abundance.’”

Davis also shared a story about a young girl named Beth who came to him wanting to share the love of Christ with her friends but not knowing what to say. He told her to choose one friend and that God would tell her what to say.

“Beth led seven of her friends to Christ her senior year and she still doesn’t know what to say,” Davis said. “God will tell you what to say, and when you do, say it with boldness.”

He closed by challenging students to be obedient in their walk with God and listen to His voice.

“God will never ask you to do anything He hasn’t perfectly prepared you to do,” Davis said.
