Alumnus Matt Krause wins seat in Texas House

After taking 59 percent of the vote on Nov. 6, alumnus Matt Krause (’07, Liberty University School of Law) has now won a seat in the Texas House of Representatives, making him the first Liberty law graduate to hold a statewide political office.

“I am honored to be given the privilege of representing Texas House District 93 in the upcoming legislative session,” Krause said this week. “I look forward to working hard to advance and defend the principles this great state and country were founded on: personal responsibility, limited government, faith, and family values.”

Krause entered the election on the heels of his stunning victory in the District 93 Republican primaries on May 29. Early polls predicted he would bottom out the three-challenger ticket, but an aggressive campaign paid off and Krause earned 50.7 percent of the vote, ousting the incumbent and winning him the GOP nod.

Krause was a member of the School of Law’s inaugural class, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and third in the class. He was also the first recipient of the Spirit of Liberty Award, given to a graduate who demonstrates academic excellence and models Liberty’s mission.

While attending Liberty, Krause was heavily involved outside the classroom, participating with the school’s Law Review and Moot Court program.

He served as an intern with Liberty Counsel while in law school and went on to open its first office in Texas. Krause has also served as an adjunct professor of government and criminal justice for Liberty University Online.
