Liberty considering offer to add new campus in Northeast

Religion News Service reported this week that a campus built in 1879 by evangelist D.L. Moody in Northfield, Mass., is being given away for free, and Liberty University is among one of 15 institutions to be extended the offer.

The 217-acre site, and its 43 buildings, is owned by the Green family of Oklahoma, the owners of the Hobby Lobby craft store chain and the same family who donated a 1-million-square-foot former cell phone manufacturing building to Liberty in 2003 (now called Green Hall).

Chancellor and President Jerry Falwell, Jr. told Religion News Service:

“Liberty is a large school, but we still couldn’t see how we’d utilize that whole property. We suggested that maybe several schools could work together to jointly use the property for different programs. … We put together a proposal along those lines.”

Liberty’s Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Ronald Godwin said Liberty is considering using the property for short-term and weeklong intensive courses for online graduate students who live in the Northeast.
