Chatting with Brian Littrell from the Backstreet Boys one day, evangelist David Nasser flipped open the singer’s cell phone and discovered a few celebrities listed on a first-name basis.
At Wednesday’s convocation, Nasser recalled the scenario of seeing certain big names — “Tiger” and “Brittney” — in Littrell’s contact list. Nasser wondered aloud what it would be like to be friends with celebrities who would actually call him back.
Turning to Isaiah 41:9-10, Nasser reminded students that they have access to The One who is even more powerful and important than any celebrity, and He knows them by name.
An excerpt from the verses says: “… I have chosen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Anytime a believer calls out to God through prayer, He promises to answer. When you’re let down by your parents or closest friends, Nasser said, God promises to still be there and heal your hurt.

David Nasser is a frequent guest speaker at Liberty University. At LU’s Spiritual Emphasis Week early last semester, he encouraged students to donate the same dollar amount that their blue jeans cost to help three Ethiopian children be adopted. The offering amounted to nearly $100,000. Updating students on that unique offering, Nasser said the money will cover the adoption expenses for a family of an LU student who plans on welcoming the orphaned siblings into their home soon. The family anticipates settling the paperwork by mid-October and flying to pick up the children in November.
