What is Liberty University Online Academy (LUOA)?

“Being a student at LUOA gave me a lot of freedom to make my own schedule, which I really loved. I was able to go at my own pace, and therefore spend my extra time pursuing things that I truly enjoyed.”
“When I was going through a hard time, my advisors were willing to work with me on assignments, and prayed for me when I was struggling.”
“LUOA prepared me when I started at Liberty, because I was challenged in high school to work harder.”
“I absolutely enjoyed everything about LUOA. If I had to pick one thing, I would say that I love how the teachers care for the students and are always ready to help.”
“Dual enrollment allowed me to get some college credits done before I went to Liberty.”

What is the parent’s role versus the teacher’s?
As an LUOA parent, you are the primary teacher. Parents help answer academic questions and hold students accountable for completing assignments. Next in line is your Academy teacher, who offers support through built-in messaging for student/teacher correspondence. Liberty University Online Academy teachers are available to you and your student for real-time and live-voice assistance via telephone when needed.
How do students communicate with an Academy teacher?
Students can communicate with their Academy teachers in 2 ways: through the messaging system and through submission comment boxes built into the curriculum. Please note that teachers have 48 hours to grade an assignment and 24 hours to respond to lesson questions. Subject specialists can be reached by phone between the hours of 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM EST, Monday through Friday.
What is a typical school day like?
At LUOA, you arrange the school schedule. You may have your student do all their work in one sitting or space it out over the day. Time spent on the computer will vary depending on your school calendar, the number of subjects that have been assigned, and the student’s understanding of the course material. Generally, a student taking a full course load spread over a 180-day school year (not counting weekends and holidays) will spend 3 to 5 hours a day on the computer.
How long does the enrollment process take?
The admissions process can take a few days or up to a few weeks. The time frame will greatly depend on your enrollment goals, how accessible your child’s records are, and how available your student is to take possible assessment testing. Special approval or unique situations can arise that may add time to the admission process.
Is LUOA Accredited?
LUOA is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and Cognia, which is the parent organization for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI). The Commonwealth of Virginia also recognizes LUOA as a member institution of the Virginia Council for Private Education (VCPE).
Does LUOA periodically send report cards or progress reports?
Yes, our academic advising team will email progress reports to parents twice per month. However, we encourage parents to actively monitor their student’s work through their parent observer account. Official grade reports are available upon request.
