At Liberty University, we believe staying at the forefront of federal and state policy issues is essential to advancing policies that serve both our students and our institution.

The Office of Government and Community Relations (OGCR) acts as a liaison and represents Liberty University before federal, state, and local government officials and agencies.

As advocates for Liberty University and our students, OGCR:

• Works closely with government officials and staff to advocate for policies on behalf of our students and community
• Monitors bills, policies, regulations, and new legislation to address concerns and protect the best interests of the university
• Informs appropriate university staff of legislative issues or potential impacts

OGCR serves under the Division of Ethics & Compliance. Legislative priorities for the university are approved by the Liberty University Office of the President.

Community Relations

OGCR is the primary contact for business and community organizations interested in engaging with Liberty University. As a major economic driver in the Lynchburg area, a 2023 economic impact report indicated that Liberty is responsible for generating nearly $1 billion in overall economic activity in the Lynchburg Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

Liberty is also an active member of the Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance (LRBA).
