A Ranking Of The Top Five Pixar Moms

Disney’s Pixar Animation Studios has produced many notable animated films since its first release of “Toy Story” in 1995. These films, noted for both their quality animation and characters, have been recognized for their iconic “moms.” From Nemo’s mom, Coral, to Queen Elinor from “Brave,” this article will rank Pixar’s top five most memorable moms and how they have improved the narrative of their family’s stories.

5. Coral (Nemo’s mom)

Without Nemo’s mom, we would not even have “Finding Nemo.” While Coral only makes a short appearance in the film, her fate is the inciting incident for the entire story. Without Coral to balance him out, Marlin becomes extremely overprotective and lacks any joy or spontaneity in his life. Nemo’s character seems to have his mother’s adventurous spirit, provoking the journey that is “Finding Nemo.”

4. Mrs. Andersen (Riley’s mom)

“Inside Out” and “Inside Out 2” follow Riley and her family’s emotions. Mrs. Andersen helps Riley navigate the difficult stages that come with growing up. The few lines we get from her character are insightful and sometimes humorous. Mrs. Andersen’s obvious care for her daughter is clearly seen within both films, and her support of Riley in times of sadness and panic is characteristic of a loving mother.

3. Mamá Imelda (Miguel’s great-great-grandmother)

While there are multiple motherly figures in the movie “Coco,” Mamá Imelda serves as the matriarch of her family. She originally is against Miguel’s desire to pursue music. But after discovering the lies surrounding the death of her husband, Mamá Imelda fights alongside her family to help Miguel. Her quick wit, singing abilities and obvious loyalty to her family make her character memorable. Without her influence, the family would not have placed such a high value on the household relationship. Cherishing family and remaining loyal to loved ones are the leading themes in Pixar’s “Coco,” making Mamá Imelda’s character vital to the core of the movie.

2. Queen Elinor (Merida’s mom)

Pixar’s “Brave” centers around Merida and her mother’s relationship. Queen Elinor transforms into a bear when her daughter Merida casts a magical spell. Queen Elinor and Merida’s fight to return her to a human state helps to rekindle the mother-daughter relationship. Screenrant notes that Queen Elinor is one of Disney’s best moms for “her ability and willingness to learn, grow, and compromise to gain a better understanding of her child.” Queen Elinor holds her kingdom and its clans together through her respected leadership.

1. Helen Parr (aka Mrs. Incredible)

The leading lady and top Pixar mom is Helen Parr, better known as Elastigirl or Mrs. Incredible in the Incredibles franchise. Holly Hunter’s character in “The Incredibles” and “Incredibles 2” is a classic superhero, loving wife and caring mother. She is the glue that holds her family together and the voice of reason within both Incredibles films. While her children navigate the challenges of growing up, Mrs. Incredible is there to support them and raise them to value their family. Screenrant and EarlyGame’s rankings also place Mrs. Incredible at the top of their lists, showing the internet agrees that Mrs. Incredible is the superior Pixar mom.
