Local thrift store uplifts community with sustainable clothing and partnerships

Threaded Collective is a high-quality, sustainable thrift store located at 1212 Main St. in downtown Lynchburg. The store features a wide range of popular brands and styles that are brought in by locals and hand-picked to sell by staff members. Customers can enjoy Threaded’s selection of elevated, eco-friendly clothing options for a fraction of the original cost.

“Threaded was founded out of a desire to bring more sustainability options into the Greater Lynchburg area, as well as to educate people on the issues of fast fashion,” Victoria Cropper, cofounder of Threaded Collective, said. “Also, to educate how the fashion industry affects our local and global communities.”

Alongside her friend Jennifer Olson, Cropper opened the storefront doors in May of 2023, and the business has been a staple shopping experience in the community ever since. The store focuses on accepting and reselling high-quality clothing items with little to no wear and tear. Brands such as Free People, Anthropology, Everlane and Madewell can be found throughout the store.

“We sell the brands people know and love for a fraction of the cost,” Cropper said. “You can find brands that you cannot find anywhere else in the area because we do not have certain locations in Lynchburg such as Free People or Lululemon.”

Along with the mission to teach and showcase the importance of buying sustainable clothing items, Threaded Collective values people at the root of everything. From partnering with local charities to hosting its own events, Threaded takes pride in serving the community first.

The Mosaic Collective, also located in downtown Lynchburg, is Threaded’s sister store. Mosaic Collective was founded by Olson and seeks to provide a new light and narrative to those who may be struggling in the area. Mosaic Collective sits within the storefront of Threaded and sells products made by people with disabilities and survivors of trafficking and abuse.

Together, Threaded Collective and Mosaic Collective strive to give back to the local community. Each quarter, Threaded gives back or partners with different nonprofits or local ministries within the Lynchburg area. Along with monetarily giving back to the community, Threaded holds diaper and food drives.

“We try to do partnerships within and throughout the year to make sure we are giving back,” Cropper said. “It reflects going back and caring about both people and planet.”

Not only is Threaded a place to find sustainable clothing items, but it also holds events throughout the year. As the cold holiday season approaches, Threaded will be hosting different community-shopping and hang-out events. These include its “Holiday Open House” Nov. 1, featuring festive snacks and clothing that customers can check out to prepare for the holiday season.
