Liberty Intramural Sports hosts Billiards Tournament for students

If you love to play pool and are interested in winning a prize, Liberty has the perfect event for you. Liberty University’s Intramural Sports department will put on a Billiards Tournament, and the deadline to sign up is April 2 at 4 p.m.

The tournament will take place in the Montview Game Room on April 14 at 5 p.m. Teams will be limited to one person, and the competition will be single elimination with a bracket keeping track of each team. The tournament will follow the basic billiard rules, so the first to pocket all their balls and then the 8-ball wins.

Liberty’s Intramural Sports coordinator Kailey Bandara said this tournament is a way to have some fun doing what you love while also competing for a prize.

“This event is a great way to enjoy the game of billiards with the added benefit of competition. If you make it all the way and win, the student will receive one of the coveted Liberty Intramurals champion T-shirts,” Bandara said.

IMS holds a billiards tournament for students each semester, along with many tournaments for other sports. Intramurals can be one way to meet new people with similar interests and maintain an active lifestyle. If you would like to see what tournaments or leagues you can get involved in, visit Liberty’s Campus Recreation website.

“Teams fill up fast, so students will need to register early, but Intramurals is one of the best ways to stay active, make new friends and enjoy extracurricular activities at Liberty,” Bandara said.

Two Liberty students, Ellie Watt and Megan Yoakum, are involved in cornhole, another activity offered through Intramural sports.

“You get to meet other students that you wouldn’t typically meet, and it’s in a more fun setting,” Yoakum said.

The two girls said playing cornhole each week helps keep them active. They plan to continue competing in cornhole throughout the upcoming semesters. Intramural sports like cornhole and billiards are activities one may not think of when hearing intramural sports.

To register for the billiards tournament, students can visit IMLeagues.com and create an account with their Liberty email. It costs $10 to register.

If you missed out on the chance to be a part of one of the Intramural leagues this year, registration for the next academic school year begins on Aug. 1. To register, you can visit the same website used for the billiards tournament at their website
