Students explore new ways to learn: Graduate student workshop

Graduate school presents a different way of learning and a different method of being academically successful.

Liberty’s Graduate Student Life will host a workshop for graduates to explore those differences on Wednesday, Jan. 25 from 10 a.m. to noon in Montview 2610.

Students will have opportunities to ask questions and hear from a panel of faculty, staff and students to learn more about various aspects of the graduate experience and tips for navigating the new terrain of academia. The event also gives graduates an opportunity to meet other people in the graduate community.

“Graduate students need community with other graduate students. It is a great opportunity to network and build relationships with others,” Christen Gery, director of Graduate Student Life, said.

Gery also said the Office of Graduate Student Life is in place to help students prosper inside and outside of the classroom.

“Students should attend these workshops because of the opportunity that the atmosphere creates,” Gery said. “The workshops lay a foundation for learning outside the classroom that will help the student with spiritual, financial, relational and other needs.”

Sumner Wylie, a graduate student at Liberty, appreciates how Graduate Student Life helps connect her to campus resources.

“I love that Liberty will host events where graduate students can ask their professors questions … It not only allows students to network and connect, but for me personally, I’ve been able to get to know my professors on a personal level,” Wylie said.
