Student Activities kicked off the new semester by holding the annual Block Party.  The event was hosted in the LaHaye parking lot, and students lined up as early as an hour beforehand in anticipation of the festivities.

“The Block Party, in essence, has always been the big welcome into the student body,” Cort Comfort, director of Student Activities, said.

He shared that the Block Party aims to get students involved in the campus community in three main ways: allowing them to meet new people, strengthening existing friendships and reconnecting with old friends.

Because of its complexity and scope, Comfort noted the Block Party is one of the more unique events offered by Student Activities.

“There is more attention to detail and a focus on when exactly everything is supposed to happen than any other single event that we take part in,” Comfort said.

A myriad of musical acts performed at the event, including student performances and headliner Social Club Misfits. The event also featured Gable Price and Friends, KMO and more.

Carnival rides and recreational activities offered students a trip to the fair, and this year, Student Activities added a water slide and ice skating.

With over 15 sponsors and vendors at the event, there were plenty of giveaways and a number of food trucks that served students a variety of food items.

The event also gave students an opportunity to get acquainted with various university organizations, ranging from Liberty Club Sports, 90.9 the Light and the Standing for Freedom Center.

Senior Taryn Spencer appreciated that as a commuter student, the event was a great way to “see friends from class but also meet new friends.”

The weather remained warm and calm throughout the night as students filed in to hear the live music and enjoy the festivities. The music drew a large crowd of students who gathered at the stage and stayed energized throughout the evening. Ultimately, the event gave students a chance to get together and have fun before the semester kicks off.

With the Block Party and various other events, Comfort said the goal of Student Activities is to create an atmosphere that intentionally allows students to engage with each other and build friendships that have the potential to last long past a student’s college years.

Comfort said Student Activities will remain “an excellent way for (students) to engage with the culture on campus.”

Line Dancing Night and Neon Mini Golf are among the upcoming events offered by Student Activities, giving students plenty of opportunities to have fun and meet new friends. To learn more about future events, students can visit liberty.edu/sa.
