Liberty Men’s Lacrosse Faces Roanoke In Final Preseason Game before regular Season

Liberty’s men’s lacrosse team fell short during a scrimmage against Roanoke College at home Feb. 5, losing 7-12.
The team, which has lost just six games over the past three seasons, is looking to continue the winning trend after going 9-3 in the fall 2021 season under Head Coach Kyle McQuillan and Assistant Coach Mike Zumpano.
Junior midfielder Jacob Gasterland was excited for the first scrimmage of 2022.
“It was good to play with the guys for the first time this season,” Gasterland said. “We have a lot to work on, and we’re looking forward to our season opener against South Carolina in two weeks.”
The team opens the season Feb. 19 against South Carolina, who were the 2019 SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) Division I champions. Liberty escaped with a 12-11 victory when the Flames last played South Carolina in 2019.
A matchup with Virginia Tech in Blacksburg to end the 14-game season remains the game to watch this spring. Other highlights in the Flames’ schedule include a February weekend in which the Flames will face both Pitt and West Virginia, a game against Clemson in March, a revenge match against BYU, who ended Liberty’s title hopes last season, and a trip up to Harrisonburg to face in-state rival JMU.
Liberty opens its season against South Carolina Feb. 19 at 5 p.m.
